GLENEAGLES HOTEL & GOLF COURSES, SCOTLAND
“The Palace of the Glens”—such is the phrase often used to describe the magnificent Gleneagles Hotel, undoubtedly one of the world’s finest, one which should be included in absolutely every trip to Scotland, no matter how much it stretches the budget! We would give anything to be able to spend a week here, enjoying both the hotel and the amazing, wonderfully scenic golf courses--the Kings, Queens, and PGA Centenary--but we would settle for just one night! The Kings Course is particularly a Hidden Links favorite. We are astounded that more people do not automatically include it on their list of “must play” courses! Designed by James Braid, this is the preeminent inland Scottish course, an “inland links,” with superb, bouncy turf, and all of the essential elements of a great, historic Scottish links such as raised greens, deep bunkering, the occasional blind shot, humps and hillocks, and incredible beauty. For an incredible 36-hole day, play the Queens Course as well, a bit shorter but similar in style and just as beautiful as the Kings. Also designed by James Braid, it happens to have the best hole at Gleneagles, the magnificent downhill 18th. A good score is there to be had as you have 6 magnificent par-3s to attack. Need even more golf? The 2014 Ryder Cup will be held on Gleneagles’ PGA Centenary Course. Combine the hotel, setting, and superb golf, and Gleneagles may very well be the best time to be had in Scotland!
