Estela
Estela Highlights
Set along the breathtaking—at times dramatic—Minho coastline of northwestern Portugal, Estela Golf Club sits just 30 kilometres north of the historic city of Porto and moments from the lively seaside resort of Póvoa de Varzim.
Designed by acclaimed architect Duarte Sotto-Mayor, Estela is deeply rooted in both regional pride and golfing vision. Established on October 27, 1987, the club was the realization of a dream shared by a passionate group of golfers and northern Portuguese industrialists who sought to bring championship golf to a region where the game had little presence.
While many courses around the world adopt the “links” label simply due to their coastal location, few embody the authentic qualities that define true links golf—firm, fast turf, natural sand dunes, gently undulating fairways, and resilient greens shaped by the elements.
Estela stands among that rare company. Here, the Atlantic Ocean is never far from view, and coastal breezes add both beauty and challenge to the experience. Though golfers may be spared the bone-chilling rains and biting winds of Scotland and Ireland, the course delivers an unmistakable links character—making it a memorable and compelling stop on any Portuguese golf journey.
