The North Course at Quinta do Lago is one of the Algarve’s most enchanting layouts, evoking the charm and elegance of a classic Melbourne Sandbelt course. While a few walks between greens and tees are a little long, it’s a minor quibble in what is otherwise a remarkably enjoyable round.

One of the standout holes is the spectacular 361-metre par-four 12th, where a three-acre lake dominates the line of play. The fairway doglegs around the water, leaving a bold and strategic approach to a large, undulating green that will test even the most precise golfers.

With its collection of engaging par fives and a layout that feels both classic and thoughtful, the North Course is not to be overlooked. Since its closure in December 2013, the course has been elevated to new heights through a renovation by American architect Beau Welling, in collaboration with European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley—enhancing its strategic depth, playability, and visual appeal.
