Waterville Golf Links, Waterville, Ireland

Visit beautiful Waterville Golf Links, Irish-American Jack Mulcahy’s lifelong dream-come-true on the Ring of Kerry, and you will see why it is a favorite of the pros such as Woods, O’Meara, Janzen, and the late Payne Stewart, who make visits to the club most years. Not unlike renowned Muirfield in Scotland, it presents its layout in a challenging yet eminently fair and straightforward manner, each hazard laid out before you, with few surprises lurking. The course is a perfect compliment to the more difficult walks encountered at Ballybunion and Tralee, a different style of equally challenging golf. Bow your head at The Mass Hole, the par-3 12th, where the local Catholics risked execution by celebrating Mass in secret in the hollow short of the green, and genuflect on Mulcahy’s Peak, the 17th tee, Jack’s favorite spot on the links, and enjoy the 360-degree view. Consider spending the night at peaceful Waterville House, owned by the club, and then play it twice to do it right!
