GOLF IN INDIA: FAIRWAYS, GREENS, AND "BROWNS" |
|---|
 | There are historic golf courses and golf courses in historic settings, but it is rare to find a combination of both! Join us on one of the most amazing golf tours you could possibly imagine, hitting the fairways, greens, and “browns” of India, where you will find history both on and off the course. Start in Delhi at the Delhi Golf Club, one of only two golf courses we know (the other at the great Pyramids of Giza) dotted with monuments of great and historic archeological value. The course was commissioned by the ruling English in the 1930’s to work its way through the tombs of the Lodhi dynasty of Delhi, dating to the 15th Century. The course itself is superb, a frequent Indian Open host on the Asian PGA Tour. Visit the Taj Mahal, and then head to the Rambagh Palace Polo & Golf Club, with 9 greens and 9 “browns”, a course that actually passes through the ancient polo grounds of the royals, with the “browns” actually oiled sand as the lower part of the course is unsuitable for grass-growing. After some more sightseeing as sensational as the golf itself, head to the jewel of Indian golf, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, established in 1829 and the oldest golf club in the world outside of Great Britain. For those true adventurers, we recommend an extension to Kathmandu, for a round at the Royal Nepal Golf Club in the foothills of the Himalayas. Stay at the finest hotels, and be escorted every step of the way! | |
