 GOLF DOWN UNDER--AUSTRALIA |
|---|
 | Years ago, even the smallest thefts in England would get you a one-way ticket to Australia. If this were still the case, one wonders if golfers throughout the world would go out of their way to get caught! For Australian golf courses are among the very finest in the world, many ranked in the world top-100. Australian courses have their own distinct flavor completely unique to this part of the world, making a trip here the equal of the British Isles. And, with the seasons reversed in the southern hemisphere, you can go in the wintertime, for some much-needed warmth in addition to the most superb golf! The greatest Australian golf course is undoubtedly Royal Melbourne on the famous sandbelt outside the city, thought by many to be Alister Mackenzie’s greatest work. Within just a few miles are the other great sandbelt courses like Kingston Heath, Victoria, and Commonwealth. From Melbourne, head to Sydney, and play one of the most scenic seaside courses on Earth, New South Wales, a few hundred yards from the place Captain Cook first landed on the island continent. Play other great Sydney courses as well, and visit the Hero of Waterloo, the oldest pub in Australia built by the very convicts who were banished there, before flying to Adelaide and the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, a recent venue of what we consider to be golf’s true “5th major,” the Australian Open. If you’re on the west coast of the US, or if you love the courses of the British Isles, and especially if you’ve made a few trips there already, we highly encourage you to make your next golf vacation one to the great country of Australia! | |
